ISBN and EAN-13

Postby felix(Legacy Member) on Mon Jan 26, 2004 7:48 am

I'm a publisher who wants to create EAN13 barcodes for books using ISBN input.

However, when I generate a barcode using an ISBN, the number under it doesn't prefix with 978, which it should for books.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Felix,

First the EAN number is not the same as the ISBN number. So you need to convert from ISBN to EAN. To convert ISBN to EAN, you need to drop the last check digit of ISBN, add 978 prefix then append EAN13 checksum digit at the end of the number.

You may also take a look at our online demo:

http://www.morovia.com/font/font-demo.asp

Select Bookland from the barcode type drop down list and type the ISBN number, click submit you get a Bookland barcode.

if you have purchased Morovia UPC/EAN/Bookland Fontware, you can use FontPal utility to generate barcode string - format it with a Morovia UEB font you get a bookland barcode.
