DataMatrix Fontware 3.32 / Barcode ActiveX/DLL 3.6.4
We recently discovered a bug in DataMatrix encoding. This bug will cause 10x10 matrix to be produced incorrectly. Data Matrix barcodes contains two parts - the first half is the data codewords and the second part is security codewords. This bug causes incorrect module placement on security codewords.
Many scanners are able to read the barcode correctly as the first half of the barcode is correct and the overall shape conform to the standard. Some scanners will report a low security margin score, and still be able to read the barcode. This includes HHP scanners and dmtxread.
We recommend that all users that create DataMatrix barcodes to update their versions.
This bug affects the following products:
Barcode ActiveX lite is not impacted, as it does not support DataMatrix type.
The Versions that included the fix are released on April 27, 2009 (Monday).
