A UPC-A checksum digit can only between 0-9.

The article about UPC-A check digit calculation can be found here:

http://www.morovia.com/education/symbology/upc-a.asp

There is a web page to calculate UPC check digit in the learning center:

http://www.morovia.com/education/utility/upc-ean.asp

An ISBN number can have a checksum digit 10 which uses X to represent it.
